An ETF is a type of fund that owns the underlying assets and divides ownership of those assets into units. Unitholders are still entitled to their proportion of the profits such as dividends and can also receive a residual value in the case of the fund being liquidated. Units can be easily bought and sold on the market during trading hours or from the fund manager directly.
